[origin: EP0350372A2] Method for severing and removing a strapping band (1), encircling a package (2) and situated in a vertical plane, by means of a device (16) comprising means (17) for holding the package, means (18) for the transverse severing of the strapping band (1), means (19) for holding the strapping band, and means (20) for removing the strapping band (1) severed from the package (2), in which, successively, the package (2) is held, the strapping band (1) to be severed and removed and the severing means (18) are brought close to one another with a view to their cooperation, the severing means (18) are implemented so as to sever the strapping band (1) transversely and the strapping band (1) thus severed and the package (2) are separated by virtue of means (19,20) for holding and for removing the strapping band (1), characterised in that, in combination, the strapping band (1) is severed in its or in an upper part (9), and, in order to separate the strapping band (1) thus severed and the package (2) simultaneously, on the one hand the strapping band (1) is held at the location of or in the vicinity of this part (9) and, on the other hand, the package (2) ceases to be held, such that the package (2), which is subjected only to its own weight, falls as it separates from the severed strapping band (1). <IMAGE>
