[origin: EP0350527A1] A fireplace for room heating can be operated as an open and closed fireplace. In a closed operating mode, a movable plate screens the fireplace in the direction of the room. Conventional plates allow a view into the fire in only a relatively limited viewing angle. In order to receive a considerably freer view, the movable plate is designed as at least one plate element (4) which is bent in a curved manner in horizontal cross-section and displaceable in guide tracks (6). <IMAGE>
