[origin: WO9000456A1] In a process for manufacturing steel strip with a thickness of less than 10 mm, a steel billet is cast in a chilled continuous casting die. The incompletely solidified steel billet is compressed on leaving the die until the inner walls of the solidified casting shell are welded together. The thickness of the solidified casting shell is reduced as a result of a > 40 % deformation.
