[origin: EP0354332A1] In the course of increasing measures to improve efficiency, automatic or semi-automatic coupling pieces are increasingly being used on board ship to connect containers. It may occur, in such cases, that if coupling pieces are non-functional, there may be an unnoticed absence or inadequacy of the connection between containers. In order to prevent this, the invention proposes that the coupling pieces be provided with indicator tongues (28) which are reciprocally movable as a function of the position of their cross-bracket (15, 16). As a result it can be ascertained by reference to the position of the indicator tongues, after loading of the containers, whether the cross-brackets (15, 16) are in the desired locking position. <IMAGE>
