Breathing apparatus having a heat sink for cooling breathable gas in which the heat sink comprises a material, for example an alloy or a wax, capable of undergoing at least one endothermic solid/solid or solid/liquid phase transition, with a phase transition temperature between 20 DEG C and 100 DEG C, preferably between 40 DEG C and 80 DEG C.
