Abstract (en)

[origin: FR2613518A1] A quantity of at least one odorant substance which is physiologically impossible to perceive for the human sens of smell but which is sufficient to be discerned at a distance by an animal capable of searching the origin of the smell emitted by said odorant substance or substances and/or who will have a given behaviour in the presence of such substances is fixed to the object to be marked in a non identifiable way by the human eye. A detection by animals such as Canidae and insects (cockroaches, bees and butterflies) can be used; odorant substances will consist particularly of substances which may be detected specifically and spontaneously by an animal at extremely low threshold values ( alpha -ionone for Canidae) or pheromonal (sexual or warning) substances which modify the behaviour of an animal placed at a distance.
