[origin: EP0356767A1] A thread splicing apparatus (20) serves for the knot-free connection of threads (10). In the apparatus are arranged a thread splicing chamber (22) and, at a distance from the thread splicing chamber (22), a tube (1) through which fluid flows. The tube (1) serves to receive a thread end (11) to prepare the latter for the splicing operation. The tube (1) possesses a rough inner surface (2, 3, 6) which makes knocking contact with the thread end (11). <??>In the method for preparing the thread ends, a fluid flows turbulently through the tube (1). The thread end (11) is knocked by the turbulent flow against the structured inner surface (2, 3, 6) of the tube (1) until the thread end (11) is free of rotation. <IMAGE>
