Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0357490A1] The present invention relates to a cutting or clamping tool having two branches or at least their handles (3, 4) which are made entirely of composite material, comprising a thermosetting or a thermoplastic polymer matrix component and a reinforcing component such as carbon powder or carbon fibres, glass fibres and/or aramid fibres. In the case of the handles alone being of composite material, only they are fixed to the metal parts, for example of a pair of secateurs, by means of bolts (12, 13) passing through a straddling region (30) between the handle and a metal part (8), the length of the straddling region being considerably shorter than the longitudinal dimension of the handle (3). Compared with traditional tools, such as secateurs or pliers, the handles of which are composed of a metal core integral with the other metal elements and covered with an overmoulded plastic material, the handle or the entire branches of composite material, according to the present invention, have a considerable advantage as regards the total weight, while retaining comparable, or even improved, strength. <IMAGE>
