[origin: EP0357521A1] The invention relates to a process for the production of cast iron containing spheroidal or vermicular graphite from a basic cast iron. It consists of a late treatment of the said basic cast iron by means of a single additive, acting as a nodulating and nucleating agent, which has the following composition, expressed in per cent by weight: Silicon .... 41 to 65 Magnesium .... 2 to 30 Bismuth .... 0.1 to 4 Rare earths .... 0.5 to 4 Ca, Ba, Sr .... < 4 (for each element> Aluminium .... < 1.5 Iron .... remainder The late treatment of the basic cast iron is performed either by introducing the divided additive into the nozzle for pouring the cast iron at the entry of the mould or by the so-called "in-mould" technique.
