Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0357902A1] At the end of the tensioning operation, the uppermost section (3b) of the tying strap (3) is secured by means of a clamping device (16), which, relative to a friction welding device (8) lies opposite the slotted wheel (14) of a strap tensioning device (13). The return lock of the slotted wheel (14) is then released. The slotted wheel (14) is rotated backwards by the relaxing strap section (3c) between slotted wheel (14) and clamping device (16), counter to the tensioning direction (D). A friction brake arranged on the shaft of the slotted wheel (14) locks the slotted wheel (14) before the said strap section (3c) has completely relaxed. When the uppermost strap section (3b) is parted by a ripping knife (12), after the overlapping strap ends (3a', 3b') have been welded, this uppermost strap section (3b) is thus under a certain tensile stress, which however is less than the tensile stress after the completion of the tensioning operation. As a result a clean cut is achieved without damage to the tying strap (3). <IMAGE>
