[origin: EP0359348A2] The invention relates to an apparatus for the horizontal continuous casting of metals, in particular steel, having a tundish, in the metal-outlet opening of which a nozzle is arranged on which a separating ring bears in a sealing manner, and a continuous casting mould, which is connected to the tundish and bears on the separating ring in a sealing manner with the end faces of its side plates. In order to provide a method and an apparatus for an adjustable continuous casting mould for horizontal continuous casting machines, which in a structurally simple manner permits the passage cross- section of the mould to be altered reliably before, during and after the casting procedure, it is proposed that the continuous casting mould (30) can be altered in terms of its passage cross-section (A) and adjusting elements (40) are provided by means of which the position of the side plates (31 to 34) of the continuous casting mould (30) can be adjusted, at least one side plate (31 to 34) being movable parallel and transversely or vertically to the centre axis of the outlet opening (11). <IMAGE>
