[origin: EP0359713A1] The presser foot exchangeably attachable to a sewing machine comprises a cutting leg (47) connected fixedly to the presser foot (10) and a cutting leg (40) pivotable about an axle (45), the cutting movement being derived from the up-and-down movement of the needle bar (51). The purpose is served by a pivoting lever (20) which has essentially the form of an upturned letter T. The lever (20) is pivotable about an axle (21) connected to the foot (10), and its upwardly projecting arm bears with spring pressure against the needle- fastening screw (50). The arm flank bearing against the screw (50) forms an acute angle with the path of movement of the needle bar (51). When the sewing machine is in operation, therefore, the up-and-down movement of the needle bar (51) is converted into a pivoting movement of the lever (20). The pivoting movement of the lever (20) is transmitted, by a pin (41) fastened to it and engaging into a slot (42) of the pivotable cutting leg (40), to the latter. <??>This ensures in a simple and elegant way a reduction of the large needle-bar stroke into a much smaller stroke of the presser foot. <IMAGE>
