[origin: EP0359977A2] In the known heat treating furnace for bloom casting installations, the storage of the bloom causes great difficulties when there are breakdowns in the roll stand. In order to provide a storage capacity between the continuous casting installation and the roll stand, it is proposed that a storage furnace be provided between the feed device and the discharge device of a heat treating furnace, which storage furnace is fitted with transfer skids, it being possible for blooms to be placed in this storage furnace or to be passed quickly through between the continuous casting installation and the roll stand in the case of undisturbed operation.
