[origin: EP0360585A2] A railway carriage is assembled by forming a selfsupporting shell (1, 3, 4) and inserting prefabricated units (15) into the shell via an opening (5) left for that purpose. Following insertion and correct positioning of all units required, the opening (5) is closed with a final part (2) of the shell. Services (17, 18) are provided in the shell for subsequent connection to the units (15).
