[origin: EP0361038A2] In a method of straightening an elongate metal object, in particular a connecting rod of a reciprocating-piston engine, the connecting-rod eyes are clamped into a device and aligned relative to one another with elastic deformation of the connecting-rod shaft. The elastically deformed connecting-rod shaft is then tensioned and the surface of the connecting-rod shaft and of its transitional points to the connecting-rod eyes is shot-peened for the continuous alignment of the connecting rod.
