[origin: EP0361709A1] A method for making a material which comprises feeding a filler into a stream of high-temperature combustion gases to entrain the filler in the combustion gases; atomizing a molten metal with the stream of high-temperature combustion gases having the entrained filler such that the atomized molten metal is entrained in the stream along with the powdered filler; directing the stream of high-temperature combustion gases having the entrained filler and the entrained atomized molten metal toward a target; the filler and the atomized metal entrained in the stream of high-temperature combustion gases forming a deposit on the target, the deposit comprising a material having a metal matrix in which the filler is embedded.
