Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0362573A2] In order to cut a product, which tends to become deformed, into geometrically precise slices, the cutter (1) is provided with a spiral cutting edge (2), the latter being subdivided into at least three sections (4, 5, 6). In the direction of rotation of the cutter (1), a first section (4) of the cutting edge (2) extends with a radial increase which is less than a radial increase of a section (5) following in the direction of rotation. There then follows a third section (6), over which the cutting edge (2), in turn, extends with a smaller radial increase than the cutting edge (2) over the central section (5). The radial increase of the section (6) of the cutting edge (2) which is last in the direction of rotation is preferably reduced to a minimum. If the cutter (1) is set in rotation at a constant rotational speed, due to the different radial increases over the sections (4, 5, 6) of the cutting edge (2), a low advancing speed of the cutting edge (2) results at the beginning of a cut, then an accelerated advancing speed over the second section (5) of the cutting edge (2) and, finally, once more a considerably reduced advancing speed over the last section (6) of the cutting edge (2). The regions, which are particularly susceptible to deformation, of a product which tends to become deformed, namely those at the beginning and end of a cut, are thereby subject to a considerably reduced surface pressing due to the pressure exerted on the product by the cutting edge. <IMAGE>
