[origin: EP0364704A2] On a frame 1 of a window, door or the like composed of metal or plastic sections, the rebate face 4 has a guide channel 5 which is open on one side but is equipped on both sides with undercuts 6 in the cross-sectional direction and which is intended for the longitudinally displaceable accommodation of a driving rod. The driving rod located in the guide channel 5 is coupled from the open side of the latter to an actuating mechanism which has a pinion 14 mounted in a housing and drivable by an operating handle. In the installation region of the actuating mechanism, the metal or plastic section of the frame 1 is equipped with a perforation 22 which passes through the bottom 8 of the guide channel 5 and through which extends the housing portion 15 of the actuating mechanism containing the pinion 14. Only a housing portion 16 of the actuating mechanism guiding in a longitudinally movable way at least the ends of a coupling slide 17 permanently engaged with the pinion 14 is supported on the metal or plastic section in front of the open side of the guide channel 5. <??>Mounted in the housing portion 16 is at least one rotary knob 24 which has an axis parallel to the main plane of the pinion 14 and which carries noses or tongues 30a or 30b, the top side of which is at a distance from the rear longitudinal edges of the housing portion 16. In one rotary position of the rotary knob 24, the noses or tongues 30a or 30b are received flush by a recess 31a, 31b in the housing portion 15 containing the pinion 14, whereas in its other rotary position they project beyond the side faces of this housing portion 15 and are swung into the undercut region 6 of the guide channel 5 on the metal or plastic section of the frame 1. <IMAGE>
