[origin: EP0364874A2] A composite yarn is produced by combining a low-stretch and a high-stretch yarn. The high-stretch yarn can be in, for example, polyurethane. The low-stretch yarn can be a thermoplastic yarn. It is known to be difficult to produce a sufficiently compact combination of such yarns by an air jet treatment at high speeds. <??>As a remedy, the low-stretch yarn is subjected to a spreading treatment immediately before being combined with the elastane yarn. The spreading treatment can be effected mechanically, for example by false twisting and detwisting the false twist, by drawing over an edge or by treatment in a spreading nozzle. <IMAGE>
