To bring about interruption and subsequent resumption of the labelling process in a simple manner, in particular in the case of gaps between bottles, the cutting device consists of a stationary cutting blade and a vacuum cylinder filled with rotary cutting blades. In the operating position, the pallet rotor meets the outer surface of the vacuum cyliider tangentially. The outer surfaces of the vacuum cylinder and the pallet rotor are designed so that the radial distance between them can be varied, and so that they can be moved from an operating position to an idling position in which they are separated radially.
