[origin: EP0366038A2] The slide (12) is mounted on the frame (10) so as to be movable back and forth in the direction of the arrow (A, B). Arranged on said slide are the two deflection cylinders (16, 18) which bound the gap- shaped passage opening (24) for the web of material (60) fed from below. The continuous belt (30) is guided around the deflection cylinder (16) and deflected via two deflection rollers (20, 26) to balance out the length. The second belt (32) is of continuous construction, guided around the deflection cylinder (8) and guided sinusoidally around the deflection rollers (22, 28) to balance out the length. Furthermore, the belt (32) is deflected via the two cylinders (38, 40) mounted on the frame (10), between which cylinders the clamping device (42) is arranged. Provided on the slide (12) are two clamping arrangements (44, 46). For the folding and stacking of the web of material (60) the clamping device (42) clamps the belt (32). For guiding the completed stack (56) away in the direction of the arrow (F), with the slide (12) situated in the right end position (12') the clamping arrangement (44) is activated, by which means during the movement of the slide (12) in the direction of the arrow (B) the stack (56) is carried along. Then the clamping arrangement (44) is released and clamping arrangement (46) is activated, by which means during the movement of the slide (12) in the direction of the arrow (A) the stack (56) is conveyed further away in the direction of the arrow (B). For the formation of a new stack, the clamping device (42) is once more activated and clamping arrangement (46) is released. <IMAGE>
