[origin: EP0367987A1] A circuit arrangement for braking a series motor is proposed, in which at least a part of the field windings is supplied with a continuous current supplied on the input side. As a result, particularly for motors with a comparatively large output, a sufficient excitation of the field winding is achieved when switching over from motor operation to the braking operation. The continuous current supplied for excitation is very small in comparison to the idling current of the motor, so that no appreciable additional power loss occurs. The circuit arrangement can be constructed in a space- saving and inexpensive manner. <IMAGE>
