To provide a lock cylinder which has substantially greater security against the unauthorised axial extraction of the cylinder core (5), but at any time allows an authorised non-destructive removal of the cylinder core (5) and which, where double cylinders are concerned, also needs no separation or releasable connection of the two housing halves (1, 1'), it is designed so that there is mounted fixedly in terms of rotation, as additional axial core protection, on the cylinder core (5) in the region of the pin tumblers (6) a retaining disc (for example 9) which extends transversely relative to the longitudinal axis of the cylinder core (5) and which, in an axially protective manner, projects on the one hand into a core indentation (for example, 10) present in the cylinder core (5) and on the other hand, at least when the key is withdrawn, into a housing indentation (8) located at the same height in the cylinder housing (1). <IMAGE>
