A process and a device are specified for producing an intaglio printing plate in the printing press in an economic manner. An intaglio printing cylinder used as an intaglio printing starting plate - preferably made of ceramic - has an even basic cup pattern designed at least for the largest quantity of ink to be transferred. The cups are filled by an image spot transfer unit operating according to a known non-impact process, for example the thermotransfer principle or the principle of an ink jet printer, directly or with interposition of a transfer belt filled with a meltable substance to the extent that the volume remaining unfilled corresponds to the quantity of ink to be transferred by one cup in each case. The substance can easily be removed on completion of the printing operation and washing out of the ink residues by heating the intaglio printing cylinder, after which the cylinder can be provided with a new printing image. Thus the production of the intaglio printing plate and the changeover of an intaglio printing press is designed in total to be far more rational and the intaglio printing process is also economic for smaller editions. <IMAGE>

Es wird ein Verfahren und eine Vorrichtung angegeben, um eine Tiefdruckform in wirtschaftlicher Weise in der Druckmaschine herzustellen. Ein als Tiefdruckrohform verwendeter - vorzugsweise aus Keramik hergestellter - Tiefdruckzylinder weist ein mindestens auf die größte zu übertragende Farbmenge ausgelegtes, gleichmäßiges Näpfchengrundraster auf. Die Näpfchen werden von einer nach einem bekannten Non-Impact-Verfahren arbeitenden Bildpunkt-Übertragungseinheit, beispielsweise dem Thermotransferprinzip oder dem Prinzip eines Tintenstrahldruckers, direkt oder unter Zwischenschaltung eines Transferbandes mit einer schmelzbaren Substanz soweit gefüllt, daß das freibleibende Volumen der jeweils von einem Näpfchen zu übertragenden Farbmenge entspricht. Die Substanz läßt sich nach Beendigung des Druckvorganges und Abwaschen der Farbreste durch Aufheizen des Tiefdruckzylinders leicht entfernen, worauf der Zylinder mit einem neuen Druckbild versehen werden kann. Damit wird die Tiefdruckformherstellung und die Umrüstung einer Tiefdruckmaschine insgesamt wesentlich rationeller gestaltet und das Tiefdruckverfahren auch für kleinere Auflagen wirtschaftlich.
