[origin: EP0368178A2] For a direct image formation in a printing cylinder in a web-fed rotary press, a process is specified, in which a transfer belt, provided with a coating of the substance adequate for the image by the effect of energy by means of an image dot transfer unit, is guided at least partially on the conventional path of a web of printed material into the vicinity of the printing cylinder, and in which the parts of the substance influencing the ink guiding are discharged by renewed, at least one-time effect of energy on the printing cylinder. The basic concept consists in the fact that, for the production of a printing plate, as far as possible the reverse path is selected from that taken by a printing image during the actual printing operation. <IMAGE>
