Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0368180A2] A process for the production of images in a printing cylinder in a rotary offset machine is specified, in which parts of the surface of the printing cylinder are changed in respect of their ink/water affinity by means of a substance coating which is adequate for the image and influences the ink guiding. In contrast to a known process, in which the substance transfer likewise takes place by means of the thermotransfer process but directly onto the printing cylinder provided with a hard surface, the process according to the invention is characterised in that the substance coating takes place at least as an alternative on a soft surface. For this purpose, either the surface of the printing cylinder is soft or the transfer takes place in two transfer steps with interposition of a transfer cylinder with a soft surface - preferably of the blanket cylinder. The process guarantees an even transfer of the substance even in the case of relatively wide production tolerances since deviations in the transfer line relating to distance and pressing force are compensated. <IMAGE>
