[origin: EP0369270A1] During the last part of the programme, the so-called final spin, as much moisture must be removed from the textile pieces as possible. In known washing machines this takes place at washing drum speeds of 1000 to 1200 revolutions per minute. A subsequent spin in separate spin dryers may be necessary. Using the method of the invention, the textile pieces are stripped of sufficient moisture while still in the washing machine as to make a subsequent spin unnecessary. In the method of the invention, the drum speeds are kept constant at the final spin stage at four predetermined levels for four predetermined periods while being gradually speeded up to a maximum speed of 1400 revolutions per minute, and this final speed is maintained for a short period until the braking has started to bring the drum to a stop. The method of the invention is suitable for performing the final spin programme of domestic washing machines. <IMAGE>
