[origin: EP0369338A2] An optical body (20) having light reflecting properties is located in the luminaire housing (10) between the lamp (11) and the lower light outlet opening (12). The width of the optical body (20) is dimensioned such that the screening angle of the optical body - referred to the lamp (11) - is essentially equal to the free light emission of the luminaire housing. The optical body (20) consists of a compact block, the top side and underside of which each have at most one single concave break line. The direct radiation passing through the optical body (20) is deflected by refraction, in order to obtain suitable light distribution. Given precise maintenance of the desired directing of the light, the luminaire has high efficiency, because the reflections required for directing the light are limited to a minimum. <IMAGE>
