It also relates to a package using such a block and a method of packaging which exploits all the possibilities of such equipment. It finds application in all fields of packaging in boxes or in packaging under heat-retractable plastic film. According to the invention, the packaging block is intended to be interposed between a package and a product to be packaged, and it is produced by cutting out from an elongate band (8) of a thick sheet material with given damping characteristics, which is then fashioned so as to surround, at least partially in one cutting plane, the product (2) to be packaged, constituting first portions, of which at least one is in the form of a box, first portions at a distance from the product which come into contact with the inside of the package and second portions (9-11) which connect the first portions (4-7) to one another. <IMAGE>
