The defective cigarettes from each cigarette making machine (1) are continuously fed to an associated reclaiming apparatus which is of space-saving design and is fitted onto the particular cigarette making machine (1) in a manner adapted to the performance of this machine. A surge in the occurrence of defective cigarettes is taken up by a buffer within the reclaiming apparatus, which is equipped with a rotary conveyor (3).
