Method and apparatus for strapping layers of cylindrical objects intended to be placed on a pallet. According to the invention, the strapping machine (16) effects the strapping of layers (12) of such objects with the interposition of a wedge (34) of thickness chosen so as to obtain, after removing the wedge, a loose strapping which enables the layers to be mounted on top of one another, imbricated quincuncially. Procédé et machine pour le cerclage de couches d'objets cylindriques destinées à être mises sur palette. Selon l'invention, la cercleuse (16) réalise le cerclage de couches (12) de tels objets avec interposition d'une cale (34) d'épaisseur choisie pour obtenir, après retrait de la cale, un cerclage lâche permettant un montage des couches les unes sur les autres, imbriquées en quinconce. Application au stockage de fonds de boîtes emballés en rouleaux.
