The invention relates to a method for the progressive stepped grouping of products, such as the stacking of units of goods to be packed from the bottom to the top to form a stack of goods to be packed to be fed to a collective packing machine, in which method the units of goods to be packed passing along a transport path up to the end of a grouping station are gathered together in rows by moving them in the transverse direction with part groups formed in steps and the part groups are thereby carried along by one step and all the units of goods to be packed moved in the transverse direction are then together transported further in the longitudinal direction by the length of one step. Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum fortschreitend stufenförmigen Gruppieren von Produkten, wie das Stapeln von Packguteinheiten von unten nach oben zu einem einer Sammelpackmaschine zuzuführenden Packgutstapel, bei dem die längs einer Transportbahn bis zum Ende einer Gruppierstation zulaufenden Packguteinheiten reihenweise durch Verfahren in Querrichtung mit stufenförmig aufgebauten Teilgruppen zusammengeführt und dabei die Teilgruppen um eine Stufe mitgenommen werden und danach alle in Querrichtung verfahrenen Packguteinheiten gemeinsam in Längsrichtung um eine Stufenlänge weitertransportiert werden. Zum automatischen Aufbau der Stufenformation ist erfindungsgemäß vorgesehen, daß eine einzelne Packguteinheit (1a; 1b), dann Reihen aus zwei, drei und mehr Packguteinheiten (1a; 1b) jeweils nacheinander bis zum Ende der Gruppierstation, vorzugsweise bis zu einem Anschlag (6), zugeführt und in Querrichtung verfahren werden, daß zum automatischen Abbau der Stufenformation alle in Querrichtung verfahrenen Packguteinheiten (1a; 1b) gemeinsam in Längsrichtung um eine Stufenlänge weitertransport und jeweils soviele Packguteinheiten (1a; 1b) bis zum Ende der Gruppierstation, vorzugsweise bis zum Anschlag (6), zugeführt und in Querrichtung verfahren werden wie Teilgruppen vorhanden sind.
