[origin: EP0372238A1] A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines is proposed in which the injection duration is controlled via a control means designed as an electrically controlled valve (21) and the quantity of fuel which is delivered by the pump plunger (3) after the end of injection is fed to an accumulator (16), a feed pump (23) of the positive-displacement type being deflected counter to the restoring force of a spring (18). During the suction stroke of the pump plunger (3), the accumulator (16) is emptied in order to fill the pump working space (5). This fuel feed is reinforced by the countermovement of the displacement element (24) of the feed pump (23), said movement occurring simultaneously with the emptying of the accumulator (16), which displacement element feeds additional fuel taken from the suction space (20) of the fuel injection pump to the pump working space (5). Rapid filling of the pump working space (5) and thus a high limiting speed of the internal combustion engine can be advantageously produced with such a device. <IMAGE>
