[origin: EP0373236A1] The invention relates to environmentally friendly lignite and hard coal briquets. According to the invention, the briquets contain, as additives, (a) special lime T, containing calcium carbonate and hexagonal carbon, and (b) residues from the sugar industry, selected from (i) syrupy molasses, (ii) solids from beet cleaning, and (iii) carbon sludge from sugar manufacture. These additives allow the emission values for SO2, Cl and NOx to be considerably reduced, giving an ash which is suitable for landfilling. Briquets of this type are particularly important for small furnaces and for domestic use.
