[origin: EP0374091A1] In a recess (1) of a support (2), there is arranged a cylindrical housing (3). The housing (3) comprises a housing base (4) and a housing cover (5). In the housing (3) a piston (6) having a longitudinal bore (11) has been arranged displaceably. Between the housing base (4) and the piston (6), there is located a counterpart (17) with a frustoconical cavity (18). Accommodated in this cavity (18) are four segments (16) of a frustoconical annular body which are displaceable along guide pins (21). Ribs (37) protrude radially inwards from the mutually opposite insides of the segments (81). A clamping (12) having a head (13) extends through the longitudinal bore (11) in the piston (6) as far as the segments (81). Grooves (14) are present on the inner end of the clamping rod (12), for receiving the ribs (37) of the segments (16), when the piston (6) is situated in its working position. The clamping rod (12) can be removed from the clamping device for the purpose of exchanging the object (31) to be clamped on the support (2). A standard bore (32) can therefore be provided in the said object for clamping the object, the head (13) of the clamping rod (12) butting uniformly against the edge of the said bore (32), and the object being uniformly stressed. A deformation of the clamped object (31) is thus substantially avoided. <IMAGE>
