Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0374677A2] In the manfacture of a two-sided flattened metal halogenide high-pressure discharge lamp (20), the following process steps are carried out: preforming of the discharge vessel (6) by rolling with N2 dynamic pressure rinse, clamping into a flattening device, introducing the first electro-optical system (8, 9, 10, 11), the power supply (10) being bent in a zig-zag shape and resting on the inner wall of the quartz tube (1) in a self-supporting fashion, manufacture of the first flattened portion (14) with Ar rinse, high-vacuum baking, clamping in the pump head with flattening device and filling in the filling substances (18, 19) and introducing the second electro-optical system (8, 9, 10, 11) through the metering valve in the pump head in the inert gas countercurrent, evacuating the heated-up discharge vessel (6) at least three times and argon-rinsing it, flooding the discharge vessel (6) with filler gas, manufacture of the second flattened portion (17) with simultaneous cooling of the discharge vessel (6), removal of the lamp (20) from the pump head and removal of the projecting ends of the quartz tube (1). The lamp (20) remains in the pump head during the entire pumping and flattening process, there is no pump tube on the discharge vessel (6). <IMAGE>
