Abstract (en)
The present invention relates essentially to a process for the manufacture of a composite material possessing a metallic matrix. This compound consists of a reinforcement based on alumina or alumina-silica ceramic fibres forming a felt whose cohesion is provided by a silica binder, this reinforcement being impregnated under high pressure with an aluminium-silicon alloy, in the liquid state, containing magnesium, the said alloy having a magnesium content chosen in particular as a function of the initial silica content of the reinforcement, so as to achieve a total reduction of the silica without formation of a residual magnesium-silicon compound at the matrix-reinforcement interface. The composite materials obtained by this process can be used in the automotive industry, for example to manufacture the components of a motive power unit.

La présente invention concerne essentiellement un procédé de fabrication d'un matériau composite à matrice métallique. Ce composé est constitué par un renfort à base de fibres céramiques d'alumine ou d'alumine-silice formant un feutre dont la cohésion est assurée par un liant de silice, ce renfort étant imprégné sous haute pression par un alliage d'aluminium-silicium à l'état liquide comportant du magnésium, lequel alliage comporte une teneur en magnésium définie notamment en fonction de la teneur initiale en silice du renfort pour obtenir une réduction totale de la silice sans la formation d'un composé résiduel de magnésium-silicium au niveau de l'interface matrice-renfort. Les matériaux composites obtenus par ce procédé peuvent être utilisés dans l'industrie automobile pour fabriquer par exemple les pièces d'un groupe moto-propulseur.
