Abstract (en)

[origin: CA2005816A1] In a process for electromagnetic casting of round and hollow ingots, in particular such of aluminum and aluminum alloys, the ingot (7) is rotated about its longitudinal axis (x) during casting. This is achieved by way of a rotatable dummy base (6). With that the metal feed and cooling of the ingot is made symmetrical and, as a result, a more uniform shape is obtained and a more uniform cell structure across the ingot cross-section. In order to promote a stronger stirring effect, a stationary stirrer (8) dipping into the molten part of the ingot (7) can be provided attached to the metal inlet system (3). (figure 1).

Abstract (de)

Bei einem Verfahren zum elektromagnetischen Giessen von Rund- bwz. Hohlrundbarren, insbesondere aus Aluminium und Aluminiumlegierungen, wird der Barren (7) während des Giessvorgangs um seine Längsachse (x) in eine Rotationsbewegung versetzt. Dies wird mittels eines drehbar gelagerten Anfahrbodens (6) erreicht. Damit wird die Metallspeisung und die Strangkühlung symmetrisiert, es resultiert eine bessere Formkonstanz und ein über dem Barrenquerschnitt gleichmässigeres Zellgefüge. Zur Verstärkung des Rühreffekts kann am Metalleinlaufsystem (3) ein in den flüssigen Teil des Barrens (7) eintauchendes stationäres Rührwerk (8) befestigt sein.
