[origin: US4977451A] The invention relates to a system for automatic surveillance of a site by recording data collected by a video camera 3 upon the occurrence of an incidental event (e.g. a road accident). The apparatus comprises an accident detector and a video tape recorder equipped with a controller device that causes the recorder to operate on successive sections of the magnetic tape, each section corresponding to a sequence of predetermined length. At the end of recording on each section, the controller determines whether to continue recording images either repeatedly on the same section after returning to the beginning thereof, in the case of there being no accident or, in the case of an accident, recording the images onto the following section. The autonomy of the magnetic tape recorder is thereby considerably increased.

L'invention concerne la surveillance automatique d'un site par enregistrement d'informations collectées par une caméra vidéo (3) lorsque survient un événement fortuit (accident de la circulation). L'appareillage comprend un détecteur d'accident (33) et un magnétoscope muni d'un dispositif de commande qui fait fonctionner celui-ci sur des sections successives de la bande magnétique correspondant chacune à une séquence de durée déterminée, et qui commande, à la fin de l'enregistrement sur chaque section, la poursuite de l'enregistrement des images soit, en l'absence d'accident, de façon répétée sur cette même section, après retour au début de celle-ci, soit, si un accident a été détecté, sur la section suivante. L'autonomie du magnétoscope est ainsi considérablement augmentée.
