Abstract (en)

[origin: WO8906629A1] In a softpack-type cigarette packet, a pile of cigarettes is forced into a rectangular parallelepipedal wrapper (15) consisting of a composite foil cut-out whose edges overlap to form envelope folds and are bonded together by heat sealing. For ease of opening, an essentially U-shaped line of weakness (16, 16', 26) is provided in the wrapper material. Said line bounds a region of the wrapper in the vicinity or on the edge of the opening face (18) of the wrapper and is located on the surface of the smaller lateral face (17) of the wrapper parallel to the longitudinal direction of the cigarettes. A preferably self-adhesive opening tab (19, 23-25, 28), permanently bonded to the wrapper (15), is located inside the region bounded by the line of weakness (16, 16', 26). To open the packet, the edge of the opening tab (19, 23-25, 28) is pulled, thereby rupturing the line of weakness (16, 16', 26). The packet can be temporarily reclosed by replacing the opening tab (19, 23-25, 28) in its original position. A thinner wrapper material can be used, if it consists of a composite film (31) comprising two layers (16, 16', 26) connected to the larger lateral faces (34) of the wrapper only along the lines of weakness (16, 16', 26).
