[origin: EP0379712A1] The folding apparatus comprises a rotationally driven drive cylinder (22) which is moved alternately in the one and in the other direction and against which two folding rollers (24, 24') are prestressed. A return barrier (16) is provided in the end region of the feeding channel (12). The two jointly swivellable guide elements (28, 30) have guide rails (32) which are arranged in the manner of a rake and whose free ends are oriented towards one another. In the lower end position the guide rails (32) of the upper guide element (28) protrude into the accumulation space (26) and together with the lower folding roller (24) delimit a passage (42) for the paper web (14). In the upper end position the passage (42) is formed by the upper folding roller (24') and the guide rails (32) of the lower guide element (30). Thus, the paper web (14) is also guided in the accumulation space (26). <IMAGE>
