Bei einem Abfallsammler mit einem Abfallbehälter (4) und einem den Abfallbehälter (4) verschließenden Deckel (5), bei dem der Abfallbehälter (4) um eine im wesentlichen vertikale Behälterschwenkachse schwenkbar an einer Seitenwand (9) eines Schrankes od. dgl. und der Deckel (5) um eine im wesentlichen horizontale Schwenkachse (12) schwenkbar an der Seitenwand (9) anlenkbar ist und bei dem im vorderen, von Seitenwand (9) und Tür des Schrankes gebildeten Winkel eine sich nur über einen kleinen Teil der Tiefe des Deckels (5) erstreckende Haltekonsole (7) angebracht und die Deckelschwenkachse (12) mit einem Ende in der Haltekonsole (7) gelagert ist, wird die Deckelsteuerung so weit wie möglich vereinfacht, indem die Deckelschwenkachse (12) in einem spitzen Winkel zur Seitenwand (9) verläuft und in einer Aufnahme (15) in der Deckelfläche geführt und gelagert ist und das Gewicht des zwischen der Deckelschwenkachse (12) und der Seitenwand (9) liegenden Teils des Deckels (5) größer ist als das Gewicht des jenseits der Deckelschwenkachse (12) liegenden vorderen Teils des Deckels (5).
