[origin: EP0380004A1] The extension is provided for railway vehicles, in particular for passenger coaches with UIC hitches and buffer gear and junction devices whose dividing planes can slide on one another with pretensioning and which in the non-loaded state protrude beyond their own buffer plate plane. The extension has buffer deflection means (11) which are provided for mirror-inverted attachment on the left and right of a junction device (17) in order to protect its components from collision with extraneous buffers. Normally, these means (11) have essentially three adjacent, preferably plane, surface components (21, 31, 41) in a position arranged at right angles to one another. However, they may also have only two faces, namely a pushing face (31) and an impact face (41) or in each case only one continuous spatial face structure (31, 41, 21, 31, 41). By means of this extension, passenger coaches with UIC hitches and buffer gear which have junction devices of a design which is pressure wave-resistant for high-speed transport and whose dividing planes can slide on one another with pretensioning and protrude in the non-loaded state beyond their own buffer plate plane, are protected from collisions with extraneous buffers. <IMAGE>
