[origin: EP0380124A1] A supporting device for a mattress or the like, in particular a slatted support, is provided with a frame and elastic slats mounted thereon in the longitudinal direction. To improve physically appropriate support in the side and supine positions, the supporting device is divided into three portions (2, 3, 4) in the longitudinal direction, a longer portion (2, 4) being formed adjacent to the upper and lower end in each case and a shorter portion (3) being formed between said longer portions, and slats (5) being arranged extending in the longitudinal direction at least on the upper and on the central portions (2, 3), which slats are supported by their ends on the frame (6) and on a transverse strut (7) which is provided on the frame (6) to support the adjacent ends of the slats (5) of the upper (2) and central portions (3). <IMAGE>
