Abstract (en)
[origin: WO8902733A1] A composition is disclosed for use in treating acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) and related retroviral infections. This composition consists of a phosphorylated nucleoside analogue which is encapsulated in a liposome. 5'-mono-phosphate derivatives of dideoxydinucleoside analogues such as AZT, ddC and ddA are encapsulated in liposomes in a manner which prevents or substantially reduces leakage, resulting in reduced toxic side effects of these drugs and enhanced inhibition of replication of HIV or related viruses present in monocyte/macrophages and other infected cells.
