[origin: WO9001284A1] A resting surface for beds comprises flexibly mounted, interspaced parallel slats (17), the front faces of which are mounted in support elements (22) slidingly arranged on lateral parts (2, 3) of the bed. The lower surface of each support element (22) rests on several superimposed straps (7, 7a). This ensures progressive resilience when the support element (22) moves vertically. The resting surface thus provides excellent, well-sprung comfort and adapts readily to the profile of the body. Even the heaviest bodies do not move the corresponding support elements as far as the limit stop, which would result in a loss of resilience. Being progressive, resilience is guaranteed even when the total body weight is applied to the resting surface at a single point.
