[origin: EP0381834A1] The cables, from which parts that disturb the process have been presorted, are firstly coarsely shredded on a belt and subsequently finely shredded to a grain size of less than 5 mm diameter. Thereafter, the finely granulated material is portioned into individual batches and placed on a measuring belt. After spreading to a specific layer thickness, the individual batches are measured at intervals. Depending on the activity, the individual batches are thereafter disposed of by separating the batches that have been measured as free from the contaminated ones, or vice versa. The process enables cables that are possibly weakly contaminated to be comminuted, measured and released largely entirely automatically.
