[origin: EP0381995A2] For piecing on an open-end spinning machine (11), a fibre feed device (110) is switched on and the fibre stream produced thereby is deflected on its way between the fibre feed device (110) and fibre collecting surface (136) and guided away until the actual joining operation is initiated by the return of the yarn (20). Then, in synchronism with this return of the yarn (20), the fibre stream is deflected once again and fed to the fibre collecting surface (136), before the fibre stream occurring as a result of the switch-on of the fibre feed device (110) has reached its full intensity. For carrying out this method there are control means (40) which act on the device (46) for deflecting the fibre stream, in such a way that the fibre stream reaches the fibre collecting surface (136) as a function of the yarn return, before this fibre stream has reached its full operating intensity after the fibre feed device (110) has been switched on. <IMAGE>
