[origin: EP0384012A1] A gantry crane (1) is proposed which has at least two gantry supports (2, 3), a girder (4) arranged between them, and also a device (16) for loading and unloading goods. All components (2, 3, 4, 5...) of the gantry crane (1) are designed as smooth-walled tubes roughly circular in cross-section. The main-girder tube (4), which is provided with rails (18, 19) for a travelling crab (17), is connected to the associated gantry support (2, 3) in an articulated manner (14) on the one side and in a fixed manner (13) on the other side. A roughly triangular or A-shaped design of the gantry supports (2, 3) makes it possible for the travelling crab (17) to pass through these gantry supports (2, 3), as a result of which better utilisation of the storage-space area can be achieved. <IMAGE>
