[origin: EP0384108A1] The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for cleaning, for example, metal parts contaminated with lacquer or paint residues. The lacquer or paint parts (16) are burnt off in a low-temperature carbonization furnace (10), then the metal parts are finally cleaned in a salt-bath furnace (32). The carbonization gases are thermally afterburnt and the exhaust gases from the afterburning are used for heating the salt-bath furnace (32) directly. <IMAGE>
